It’s nearly holiday party season, and you know what that means. Lots of opportunities to perch in a conspicuous place so everyone can see your cute shoes. Lots of opportunities to dance the night away. Lots of opportunities to be in agony because you wore the wrong shoes. Don’t be that person. Here at Dandelion Chandelier, we’ve been on a reconnaissance mission at Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York to scout out the footwear options for holiday party season. And we’ve got great news: there are some fabulous, fun, flirty shoes out there in every heel height – including totally flat. There are slides, mules, sandals, stilettos, kitten heels, booties, knee-high boots, over-the-knee boots, skimmers, and sneakers. There’s fur, feathers, glitter, gold and velvet. There’s crimson, navy, fuchsia, midnight black and pearl. Somewhere not far away, there’s a pair of statement party shoes waiting for you. Perhaps you fancy the Vetements booties shown above in gorgeous metallics and sequins? Here are some of the best we saw, and 6 trends to note if you want to be totally on-point:
Texture. Did we mention that velvet is still a thing? Yes, we believe we did. Check out Prada, Miu Miu, Gianvito Rossi and Attico.
Faux Fur. It’s on sandals, slides and mules and has nothing to do with keeping you warm. It’s a whimsical, playful, Zsa Zsa Gabor kind of fur – fluffy and soft, in pink, white, and other girly hues. So. Much. Fun.
Feathers. We kind of love this trend, and it goes hand-in-hand in with the faux fur – it’s frivolous, fun, sassy and seductive. Think Josephine Baker in Paris, and you’ve got the idea. Prada has the best ones we’ve seen.
Glitter and shine. Metallics and sparkle are de rigueur for the holidays – this season, they’re showing up everywhere in totally over-the-top variations. Check out Christian Louboutin’s crystal-studded skimmers. They also come in gold or with multi-colored crystals. We’ve seen people wearing them on the street in Manhattan, and you can see them from miles away. Saint Laurent’s boot of the season was studded in crystals – but the brand has some stunning and subtler glittery black booties that will also channel your inner rock star quite effectively. Balenciaga has solid silver booties, and Gucci and Miu Miu have more embellishment than one would have thought possible on one wee shoe.
Height. Chunky platforms or towering stilettos – 1970s or 1990s – either way, you can stand as tall as you dare this holiday season.
Heel detail. The short cute boots all share one common element: they have great details on their heels – so you look great coming or going. Some have pearls embedded in the heel – at Dries Van Noten, the heels themselves are little works of art.
Luxury is all about options, and this promises to be one of the most luxurious holidays of them all in the shoe department. Have fun! And if you just can’t decide between two pairs, you know the rule: take both!
