It’s almost time to put away the beach bags and take out the lunch boxes, because the new school year is just around the corner. By now you’ve likely received your back to school shopping lists for supplies – the long list filled with pencils, notebooks and calculators galore. However, we’re not here to talk about that boring albeit necessary shopping list. We’re here to talk with you about something a little more fun – the cutest back to school fashions for your little ones.
How many times have you walked past the magnificent Buckingham Palace in central London and wondered what it looks like inside? The grand iron gates, the imposing white marble facade, the uniformed Beefeaters in the forecourt. What marvels lie just behind those formidable gates? For a narrow window of time in late summer, you dear reader, can see for yourself.
Where will September 2018 take you? Where should it? You could visit a cosmopolitan city (we’re thinking Paris, New York, Venice or Los Angeles). Or make a cultural pilgrimage to a new design museum in Scotland. You could hit Oktoberfest in Munich, which actually starts in September. Looking for something more bucolic? Make a pilgrimage to the birthplace of bourbon in Kentucky, or head to wine country in northern California for the harvest season. Feeling the need for adrenaline-fueled adventures? The Inca Trail in Peru awaits. More in the mood for the beach? Ditch your shoes and set up shop in Madagascar. It’s all waiting for you. It’s September. Let’s go!
Whether you’re a long-time resident or a first-time visitor, the newly-opened Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries at Westminster Abbey are a must-see. Literally. There is no photography allowed in this newly-opened space high above the Abbey (although the press was allowed to take some pics, so you can get a peek at the new space online). If you want to see it in full, you have to go in person. Which you should definitely do. It’s a magical space, and a transforming experience.
Beyonce. Rihanna. Letitia Wright. Yara Shahidi. Tiffany Haddish. Tracee Ellis Ross. Lupita Nyong’o. Zendaya. Slick Woods. Issa Rae. Aja Naomi King. Laverne Cox. Naomi Campbell. The September issues are here! And their covers are the best ones we’ve ever seen. Why? Because for the first time, as black women we can see ourselves, our family members, and black women we admire and respect in the faces of so many of the women featured on their covers. And more importantly, we can see issues of importance to us in the editorial features inside. History is being made this month. And its a magical experience.
