And just like that, the dog days of summer are fading away and school is about to begin. Before you know it, full fledged fall will be upon us.
Along with longer days and cooler temps, the months of September, October and November bring with them a rush of new fun family activities to enjoy.
From apple festivals in Pennsylvania to pumpkins ablaze as well as in the sky in New York, there are some amazing fall harvest festivals happening that both kids and adults alike will love.
It’s not all pumpkins and hayrides, though. There’s teen fav Harry Styles at The Garden, an immersive experience about the discovery of the tomb of King Tut, the Smithsonion’s annual Museum Day, Bluey’s Big Play and new movies too. Because at the end of the day, you really can’t have too many options.
Get ready to grab some sweaters and snag bushel (or two) of Red Delicious apples, below, we’ve rounded up our 9 favorite family friendly events, museum exhibitions and festivals fairs to check out this fall.

1. harry styles love on tour
After a summer spent watching concert clips from abroad, New York teens and tweens can finally see heartthrob Harry Styles live and in-person during his 15 performance residency at MSG as part of the Love On Tour.
The tour works the “Harry’s House” (the title of his May 2022 album) theme by turning arenas in New York, Los Angeles (15 nights each), Chicago (6 nights) and Austin (6 nights) into Harry’s de facto house. Trust us when we say that you’re kids are gonna want to be there – through September 21

2. pinocchio
Celebrate “Disney+ Day” with the all-new live action of the classic tale Pinocchio. Based on the classic 1883 children’s book “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Italian author Carlo Collodi, the film stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who provides his voice to the living puppet that goes on a journey of how to be selfless, brave and true.
Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt voices Pinocchio’s companion and self-appointed conscience Jiminy Cricket, while Lorraine Bracco and Keegan-Michael Key provide additional voice over roles for the film – September 8
3. museum day
The 18th annual Museum Day takes place this month. For those unfamiliar, on this day, museums and other sorts of cultural destinations throughout the country allow visitors in for free. This year’s theme, the American experience, particularly draws on those exact subjects, simultaneously exploring them through the arts and the sciences.
Participating destinations in the New York area include the Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston, the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, the World Awareness Children’s Museum in Glens Falls, the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, the Poster House in Manhattan, the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in Manhattan as well as the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum in the Bronx – September 17
4. bluey’s big play
If you are a parent to a preschooler, then you are probably familiar with the Emmy Award-winning animated television series “Bluey.” Now you will have the chance to give your little one the experience of a lifetime this fall with Bluey’s Big Play at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.
The live show follows Bluey and her sister Bingo as they pull out all the games and cleverness at their disposal to get their Dad Bandit off his bean bag. Kids will love watching one of their favorite characters perform right in front of their eyes – November 18 – 20
5. beyond king tut: the immersive experience
To mark the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankoman, this fall New Yorkers will be able to travel back in time 3,000+ years to Ancient Egypt and encounter the magic and mystery of the Egyptian gods.
At Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience, visitors will be able to step through the life of the legendary King Tut. Plus, because it’s in collaboration with National Geographic, visitors will get a look at never-before-seen visuals of King Tut’s discovery, straight from the archives. 6. the great pumpkin blaze
Celebrate fall and the arrival of the spooky season with 7,000 illuminated jack o’ lanterns at the annual The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, located at the Van Cortlandt Manor in upstate New York. Visitors can stroll through the many displays, which are paired with synchronized lighting and music.
Can’t make it upstate? There’s also a Blaze in Old Bethpage, Long Island. Similar to the original event, the Long Island Blaze will also have synchronized lighting and seasonal tunes. It will accompany the hand-carved installations. You’ll want to snag a spot quickly since tickets won’t be available for long – September 16 – November 20
7. boo at the bronx zoo
Trek the candy trail, explore an extinct animal graveyard and take in pumpkin carving demos as The Bronx Zoo’s annual Boo at the Zoo.
The annual event brings with it tons of family-friendly activities together with the lure of the zoo’s animals. It runs every weekend in October through Halloween. And of course, costumes are welcome – October 2 – 31
8. national apple harvest festival
Nothing says fall like apple picking, well, except maybe an entire harvest festival dedicated to the seasonal fruit.
Held over two weekends at the South Mountain Fairgrounds in Arendtsville Pennsylvania, the National Apple Harvest Festival is a dream come true for anyone who loves apple picking season. You’ll find booth after booth of apple treats, as well as kid friendly fun like hay rides, puppet shows and a petting zoo – October 1 – 2 and 8 – 9
9. punkin’ chunkin festival
If your kids have ever wondered how far a pumpkin can fly, the annual Punkin’ Chunkin Festival along New York’s Thousand Islands-Seaway might just be the event for you.
The family-friendly festival, which also features BBQ and a farmer’s market, has several competitions. The competition is to see how far competitors can fling their gourd on the shores of the St. Lawrence River using trebuchets and catapults. Sounds like a flying good time – October 15
