4. The Salem Witch Trials: Reckoning and Reclaiming

New York, The New York Historical Society: October 7th, 2022 – January 22, 2023. “In moments of injustice, what role do we play?” This is the question asked by the new exhibit at the New York Historical Society, which takes a 300-year-old look at the Salem Witch Trials. On hand, attendees will find objects from Salem residents – from the 25 people executed, from their accusers, and from those who attempted to protect them.

5. Just Above Midtown: Changing Spaces

New York, Modern Museum of Art: October 9th, 2022 – February 18th, 2023. Founded by Linda Goode Bryant, Just Above Midtown – otherwise known as JAM – was an art gallery that highlighted work by Black artists and by artists of color. Open from 1974 until 1986, JAM was a vibrant center for art, debate, and conversation – as well as a place where well-known artists (among them, David Hammons, Butch Morris, Senga Nengudi, Lorraine O’Grady, and Howardena Pindell) displayed work early in their careers. In this new exhibit, MoMA reunites the work of many JAM alumni, as well as archival materials that attempt to capture the spirit of that special place. As well as visual pieces in a variety of mediums, the exhibition will include live performance, video, and programming for the public.
