Fall season is here – so what are the best concerts to attend in New York City in the next few weeks? We’re sharing our take on the hottest, most anticipated live pop music concerts to see in New York City (NYC) this Fall 2023, including Doja Cat, SZA and Stevie Nicks.
The 10 most anticipated pop music concerts in New York City this Fall
It was the summer of the Renaissance, the summer of The Eras. And boy what a great summer it was. Though no artist can match the power of Beyoncé or of Taylor Swift, there are still many others who we love – and who can still put on a great show. And since we are still trying to recapture the magic of these unforgettable summer shows, we want to attend as many fall concerts as we can.
Since the temperature in New York has – at long last! – started to drop, we think this seems like the perfect time to cozy up inside and dance our hearts out to some amazing live music.
And if you also happen to live in the New York area (or if you are in the midst of planning a trip), you’re in luck – we’ve made you a guide to the ten upcoming concerts that you absolutely cannot miss. It’s a season for apple picking, for reading by the fire, and for Halloween decorations – and it’s also a season to spend some quality time with the artists you know and love.
Here are the ten concerts in New York that you should attend this fall.
The 10 most anticipated concerts to see in NYC this Fall
1. Stevie Nicks
How better to start the season than with a performance by the incomparable Stevie Nicks? We feel lucky every time we have the chance to exist in the presence of the 75-year-old singer-songwriter, who is as much an icon as a solo performer as she was as part of Fleetwood Mac. The show is on October 1st at Madison Square Garden, and includes a special appearance by CIL – a twenty-year-old singer and songwriter from Fort Collins, Colorado.
2. boygenius
On October 2nd, everyone’s favorite “sad girl” supergroup takes the stage at Madison Square Garden. The indie trio consists of three musicians who are beloved in their own right – Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, and Julien Baker – and though tickets for the show were difficult to acquire following the success of the group’s new album, there are still some available to snag. And as a tremendous bonus, fan-favorite indie pop group MUNA will open the show. Grab tickets while you still can – in five years, you’ll want to be able to say you were there.
3. Japanese Breakfast
We are huge fans of Japanese Breakfast – the indie pop band headlined by Michelle Zauner, who also happens to be the author of the fabulous memoir Crying in H Mart – and we’re delighted to see that they have a New York show on the calendar this fall: Radio City Music Hall on October 5th. Though tickets are currently sold out, you can sign up for the waitlist – or try your chances at resale. Ichiko Aoba will open.
4. SZA
We’ve loved SZA for a long time – ever since the release of her first album, Ctrl – and we’ve been looking forward to a concert from her ever since the release of her second album, SOS, last December. And since SOS broke the record for the R&B album with the highest number of streams, you know we’re not the only ones who plan on going to this show. The artist comes to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on October 6th, playing with the artist d4vd, who is best known for the song “Romantic Homicide.”
5. Noname
Chicago rapper Noname is also a poet, and the founder of Noname Book Club – an online and in-person reading group that focuses on texts by people of color. And you can see the multitalented performer in concert on October 19th, at midtown venue Terminal 5. The concert is part of the Sundial tour, in honor of Noname’s brand-new album.
6. Lauryn Hill & Fugees
Ms. Lauryn Hill and Fugees are on tour in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the legendary album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. And aren’t we lucky that we have the chance to see the show live? The icons will be playing at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on October 19th, with a 7:30 pm start time.
7. Kesha
We’ve been playing Kesha’s latest album Gag Order on repeat ever since it was released in May, and we’re so excited to see her this November. The singer is currently on the road with the “Only Love” tour, and she’s hitting New York two nights in a row: November 3rd, and November 4th. Tickets are still available for the Hammerstein Ballroom performances.
8. Bob Dylan
In a season that’s packed with the music industry’s biggest names, Bob Dylan might be the biggest of them all. New Yorkers, you’ll have two opportunities to see the legend himself play at Brooklyn’s beautiful Kings Theater: November 14th and 15th. You absolutely will not want to miss our city’s stop on the Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour.
9. Liz Phair
You know what this season needed? A blast from the past. Liz Phair is on tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of her first record, Exile in Guyville. And once you’re over the fact that 1993 was 30 years ago, you can start to look forward ro this very special event. On November 24th, Phair will be playing at Kings Theater – and we’ll take any excuse to attend a concert there – along with the artist Blondshell. Get ready to rock out to all your favorite hits – and to feel a little old.
10. Doja Cat
How better to wrap up the fall concert season than with a performance by Doja Cat? The rapper has been one of our absolute favorite breakthrough artists of these past few years, and we couldn’t be more thrilled by the fact that she’s playing with Ice Spice – one of our favorite breakthrough artists of this year. Doja will be playing at the Barclays Center on November 29th – so you will have something to look forward to between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We can’t think of a better way to get ready for winter.
