School’s almost out. And whether you work from home, outside the house or are a stay-at-home parent, you’re going to need some activities to do with your kiddos beyond those few weeks of camp and any vacations you’ve got planned.
If you’ve found yourself scratching your head because you’re unsure of what to do, you’ve come to the right place. Fortunately living in and around New York City means there’s something for practically every type of kid, even picky tweens. Whether you’ve got yourself a budding artist, an explorer, a future engineer or a food-lover (albeit the kind with a sweet tooth), there’s something that suits them on our list – pinky promise.

8 family events perfect to enjoy with kids this Summer 2022
1. candytopia
Got a little one with a propensity for treats? Candytopia is returning to NYC with 17 Instagrammable rooms of candy sculptures and sweet-based art and activities.
Highlights include a marshmallow pit, a candy confetti room, a zipline, an infinity mirror room, a ring swing garden, a Sugar High Theater and an NYC-themed candy art gallery. Sounds like a deliciously good time.
2. mickey & friends x camp: an extra big adventure
CAMP’s flagship location on 5th Avenue has launched the first of several Disney-themed experiences called “Mickey & Friends x CAMP: An Extra Big Adventure.” With a little help from some friendly CAMP counselors, kids will be treated to an immersive world filled with fun, exploring a play experience after being “shrunken down” to about the size of a crayon and working together with Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Pluto and Goofy will work to “get things back to normal” just in time for Mickey’s big birthday party.
In addition, kiddos can also slide down the ribbon of a huge birthday present; explore a field of grass from a bug’s point of view; decorate a cake as big as a house; play inside a human-sized kaleidoscope; climb a giant wall of extra-huge hot dogs; fling enormous popcorn kernels the size of basketballs and more.

3. legoland new york
Everything is awesome at Legoland New York in Goshen. With over 30 million bricks (or 15,000 models) throughout the park, families can certainly spend an entire day exploring, riding new and innovative rides and participating in various Lego-themed activities.
And beginning this summer you can slide, splash and cool off at Lego City Water Playground, a brand-new water based attraction opening or enjoy the first ever Red, White & Boom celebration, complete with fireworks in honor of July 4th.
4. discoasis
It’s time to get moving and grooving! Following the arrival of Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace at Rockefeller Center, Central Park’s Wollman Rink is also receiving its own immersive, musical and theatrical roller rink experience called DiscOasis.
Throughout the day, kids and families can enjoy open skating sessions. In the evenings there will be performances curated by the Grammy-award-winning “Groovemaster,” Nile Rodgers to skate and dance along to – opens June 16
5. lavender by the bay
Missed the cherry blossoms and the tulips? That’s okay! Take a day trip out to one of Long Island’s lavender fields. Lavender By The Bay is a lavender farm on the East End of Long Island and is a great place to stop for a family picnic – and photo op!
Typically it’s in full bloom from mid-June through July and then again for a smaller bloom in late summer/early fall. You can stay updated on their Instagram so you can plan a visit right when they are their most vibrant!

6. lightyear
Just in time to enjoy as a family together on Father’s Day weekend is Lightyear from Disney Pixar. The animated film follows the adventures of the real Space Ranger character – Buzz Lightyear. The toy we all know and love from the “Toy Story” movies.
Chris Evans, Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, Taika Waititi and Peter Sohn each voice characters in this space-tastic film. You know your kids both big and small are gonna want to see this one – June 17
7. in america: an anthology of fashion
Pint sized fashionistas will love exploring part two of the Met’s show dedicated to American fashion, In America: An Anthology of Fashion. (Part one, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion which opened last fall remains on view) The new exhibition features approximately 100 examples of men’s and women’s dress dating from the 19th to the mid-late 20th century.
The garments are presented in The Met’s 13 American Wing period rooms. They are staged by some of America’s most famous directors. This includes directors such as Tom Ford, Radha Blank, Janicza Bravo, Sofia Coppola, Autumn de Wilde, Julie Dash, Regina King, Martin Scorsese and Chloé Zhao – through Sept 5
8. banksy: building castles in the sky
Survey the iconic artwork of Banksy, the provocative Bristol-born artist, who’s controversial work pops up in cities across the world on walls, bridges, sidewalks and more at Banksy: Building Castles in the Sky.
Visitors will get the rare chance to see over 100 pieces of Banksy’s original and verified art. This includes Banksy of England banknotes, several posters, rare t-shirt and vinyl cover designs and sculptures. The museum style exhibition will cover his work dating back from “Dismaland,” a satirization of Disneyland to the famous “Girl with a balloon” and “Love is in the air (flower thrower)” – through Sept 5
