One of the many hot products during the socially-distanced days of the Great Lockdowns around the world has been bicycles. In fact, bikes are so popular that it’s still difficult to get your hands on one. But no worries. Our correspondent Julie Chang Murphy has curated a list of 10 of the best luxury bike brands for cycling in style 2021, including cruisers and electric, and tips on how to find one to buy right now.
a boom in bike sales due to covid-19
Perhaps unsurprisingly, there’s been a boom in the sales of luxury bike brands since the start of the social distancing lockdown rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
With gyms and many parks closed, a bike has proven to be a great way to get fresh air, exercise, make a grocery store run, and spend time as a family.

And when the COVID-19 crisis is over, we bet they’ll remain popular. After all, bicycles are a great way to explore a new town, revisit an old favorite, get a little cardio, and grab some vitamin D.
It also doesn’t hurt that parking usually isn’t a problem – you can pop in and out of shops and then onto the shore with ease. And fortunately, you don’t have to be an expert cyclist to enjoy these pleasures. The recent rise of cruiser-style bicycles has made it even easier to jump on board.
lots of luxury bike brands from which to choose
There are lots of brands making really cute bicycles out there right now – everything from custom bespoke styles handmade in Brooklyn to models made with Swedish precision.
There are bright happy colors, over-sized tires, cushy seats and comfy handlebars — what’s not to love? Would you ride a bit longer and go a bit farther if you felt that you looked incredibly chic? Maybe. It certainly couldn’t hurt.

but can you actually get your hands on one?
You might be sold on getting new bike but even a year into the pandemic, it’s still hard to actually get your hands on one. The bicycle has a complex supply chain with as many as 50 different component lines coming from several different countries before the final product is assembled. There have even been reports about material shortages — carbon, in particular, as well as logistical issues as shipping companies experience a labor shortage and countries impose COVID-related restrictions on transport ships and their crews. According to Bicycling Magazine, the bike shortage is expected to last into 2022.
That being said, there’s still hope if you’re yearning for the open road. At the time of writing, these luxury bicycles are available or within a few months provided you get your name on the pre-order waiting list! What are you waiting for?
