Luxury hotels and resorts for a Valentine’s weekend getaway in 2022
Flowers, chocolates, and jewelry may be the traditional Valentine’s Day gifts but if a couple really wants to reignite the spark, a change of scenery might be the most conducive route to romance.
In a 2019 survey by Eventbrite commissioned through Harris Poll, 85 percent of U.S. adults preferred the gift of a unique experience over material goods. Science agrees.
In a 20-year study by Dr. Thomas Gilovich, a psychology professor at Cornell University, found that money and material objects can contribute to happiness. But only up to a certain point. “One of the enemies of happiness is adaptation,” says Dr. Gilovich. “We buy things to make us happy, and we succeed. But only for a while. New things are exciting to us at first, but then we adapt to them.”
On the other hand, the gift of an experience becomes part of you. And if you’re in a relationship, then part of your story as a couple.

From historic mansions to dreamy beachside bungalows and even a romantic dude ranch for adventure seekers, it’s all about spending some quality cuddle time with your significant other. Here are the top 12 romantic hotels to have a Valentine’s weekend to remember.

For a fairytale romance experience, the old-world elegance of The Chanler awaits in all its gilded glory. It is the only hotel located directly on Newport’s famed Cliff Walk, a 3.5-mile walking path set on the stunning shoreline.
The guest rooms are each more opulent than the next. Including some in Renaissance, Louis XVI, English Tudor, and Gothic styles. They’re furnished with museum-quality antiques and rugs.
For peak romantic vibes, book one of the Garden and Ocean Villas, which have private outdoor hot tubs, courtyards and deck spaces. Don’t miss the highly acclaimed restaurant, Spiced Pear, for a breakfast of spiced-pear French toast with caramelized banana and pear compote. And a dinner of Maine diver scallops served with sunchoke purée.
3. Glenmere Mansion in Chester, New York
Can’t get to Italy? A slice of Tuscany awaits in Hudson Valley’s Glenmere Mansion. This magnificent 150-acre estate sits in rolling farmlands overlooking the Catskill Mountains and Glenmere Lake.
Only one hour from New York City, the sumptuous Relais & Châteaux hotel and spa boast a central open cortile, majestic marble-columned porticoes, a private modern art collection and spectacular gardens. There are only 18-rooms which the owners decorated eclectically — as if “visiting an eccentric relative’s estate who lives a life of leisure.” The locally grown food is prepared by a full staff of chefs, served by a friendly waitstaff with butlers and staff for every need.
4. Winvian Farm in Litchfield Hills, Connecticut
Sometimes a quiet, rustic retreat in the woods can be just as romantic of a getaway as any palatial setting. At Winvian, guests choose from 19 individually themed cottages. Added bonus? They’re all generously socially distanced on 113 acres of woods and lakes. There’s a “Helicopter” Cottage which houses a fully-restored 1958 Sikorsky Sea King Pelican helicopter. An “Artist” Cottage resembles an airy artisan studio and the “Tree House” is suspended 35 feet in the air.
But don’t worry — you won’t have to forage for your own food. The kitchen is helmed by an executive chef who trained under Daniel Boulud and Alain Ducasse. And for pampering, a luxurious 5,000-square-foot spa will relax partners who are stressed out about confronting any wild woodland creatures.

Inspired by classic French hotels and Southern bed-and-breakfasts, high-end residential finishes mix with locally made art, quirky custom furniture mash up with classic waffle robes and white towels. Guests have special access to Bar Marilou, a craft cocktail bar, in partnership with Parisian culinary group Quixotic Projects and the pool at its sister property, Ace Hotel New Orleans.
