In New York and beyond, here are twelve cold summer snacks that we can’t wait to get our hands on.
12 best (and most delicious) new frozen gourmet treats for summer 2022
1. Panna Cotta Magic Eggs from I’Milky
New York has many first-rate options for bubble tea, but our favorite spot has got to be I’Milky. They serve the only the best and highest quality boba from Taiwan, and they make every drink with real ingredients –farm fresh milk, cane sugar, fresh fruit, and real honey. And though we’d happily take a sip from anything on the menu, we’re actually here to recommend something else: their magic eggs. These sweets are one of a kind, as adorable as they are cool and refreshing. Choose between “Happy Magic Egg,” “Golden Magic Egg,” and “Galaxy Magic Egg,” all of which are flavorful panna cottas made from the same fresh ingredients as I’Milky’s boba. A summer delicacy we can’t get enough of.
2. Ice Cream Sandwich from Sugar Hill Creamery
Sugar Hill Creamery is one of our favorite spots for hot chocolate, and we’re not surprised that they’re as ready for summer as they are winter. These jumbo ice cream sandwiches are even better than the ones you loved as a kid – you get to choose the base from their yummy selection of cookies and brownies, and then pick your favorite ice cream flavor from the case. We’re interested in Nunu’s Peach Cobbler – pureed peaches, cinnamon, and bites of homemade crisp.

3. Donut Sundae from The Social
The Social is our favorite sweet new ice cream shop in Brooklyn, and they are ready to make you feel like a kid again. Their donut sundaes are a wonder to behold, letting you indulge in all that sweet, sprinkle-filled decadence you might miss from being a kid. With six varieties of donuts – we’ve got our eye on the cookies and cream – and more than twenty whimsical ice cream flavors, a bowl of this is the answer to a hot summer’s day.
4. Ice Cream Nachos form Modern Cone
Ice cream nachos. An idea so good, we can’t believe it hasn’t totally taken over the planet. In fact, if you want to try it for yourself, you’re going to have to head to Michigan’s Modern Cone. Choose between party and personal sizes, and enjoy the magic of waffle cone chips, premium ice cream, and of course, plenty of toppings. The perfect dessert for your next summer gathering.
5. Ice Pops from The Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops
If you’ve ever doubted the magic of an ice pop – perhaps they seem like the sad, second-choice dessert you dig out of the freezer when you have nothing else on hand – Tampa’s Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops is going to make you reconsider. Not only do their amazing pops come in super special flavors – our favorites are “horchata,” “dragonfruit,” and “champagne” – but they also come with an optional chocolate dip. That’s what we like to see! And if you’re not in Florida, this is one cold summer treat you can enjoy wherever you are: you can also order online.
6. Frozen Banana from Sugar’n Spice
Frozen Bananas are the world’s most underrated summer treat. Something about chocolate, ice, and sprinkles manages to turn this middle-of-the-road fruit into something we can’t get enough of. And you should absolutely get yours from Balboa Island, where they’re a specialty. In fact, if you stop by Sugar’n Spice, you’ll be buying your frozen banana from the place that started it all in 1945.

7. Donut Ice Cream Sandwich from Drip N’ Scoop
We’ve already recommended an ice cream sandwich, and a donut sundae. You know what’s next, of course. A donut ice cream sandwich! Drip N’Scoop is a New Jersey delight, and we think it’s time the rest of the world found out about their amazing donut sandwiches. Their donuts – which come in twenty flavors, and are available on a rotation – are amazing on their own, but even better with a scoop of ice cream stuffed in the middle.
8. Watermelon Shaved Ice from Betty’s Ice Box
Vegans, right this way. New Jersey’s Betty’s Ice Box specializes in frozen treats that are totally vegan – and also totally delicious. We don’t think we’ve ever seen a summer treat as beautiful as their watermelon shaved ice. This is the kind of treat that summer dreams are made of.
9. Vegan Milkshake from Sweet Ritual
We have another vegan option for you. Sweet Ritual of Austin, Texas is a wonderful vegan ice cream parlor, and their “fancy shakes” – made with vegan soft serve – are the treat of the season. We want to get our hands on the rainbow chaser, which is made with strawberry and lavender syrups, vanilla soft serve, and rainbow sprinkles. This is the bright, floral dessert that summer is all about.
10. Cheesecake Stuffed Sno-ball from Sno-La Snowballs
If you’ve never had a sno-ball, it’s time you changed that. Unlike a regular snow cone, a sno-ball tastes like mouthfuls of fluffy snow – no ice chips here. Flavored with special syrups, these are already a thing of perfection, and when you had a slice of cheesecake in the middle? Well, we just can’t imagine a better summer snack. You’ll have to head to Sno-La Snowballs in New Orleans to get your hands on yours.

11. Shave Ice from Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice
As Ululani’s likes to say – not all shave ice is created equal. And that’s because this Maui spot makes the best of the best, using homemade syrups that they make with pure cane sugar, natural juices, and purified water. Shave ice is a popular summer treat in Hawaii, and this is the place we recommend.
12. Slushies from Lolo’s Seafood Shack
Summer treats don’t have to just be for kids. Lolo’s is one of our favorite Harlem restaurants, and as well as their amazing seafood, they’re also famous for serving some amazing mango slushies. Pick the alcohol of your choice, and your slushie will arrive in a frozen bag with a straw slid through the top. This is exactly what we want to be drinking on a summer’s night out.
