The big fete will be hosted by a starry array of celebrities, as always. So, what should close followers of fashion expect during NYFW? Our correspondent Jillian Tangen, New Yorker and fashion insider, shares the schedule along with her predictions, trends to watch, and what to expect at this fall’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW) 2021.
Insider Guide to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Fall 2021
After two seasons of digital and scaled-back presentations due to the coronavirus pandemic, New York Fashion Week is officially returning.
Set for September 8-12, 2021, the jam-packed week of physical shows and events will feature a diverse mix of 91 establishment and indie names. In addition to its other goals, NYFW 2021 is meant to help mark the official “reopening” of New York City itself.

4. Pyer Moss returns from hiatus.
Pyer Moss, one of the buzziest brands in fashion, will also participate in New York Fashion Week this fall 2021, ending a two-year runway hiatus.
5. Even Telfar is in on this!
Telfar, the iconoclastic label headed by the designer Telfar Clemens and the artistic director Babak Radboy. Though its last two live presentations were in Florence and Paris, the fiercely independent company never been known for hosting traditional runway shows. This NYFW is no exception. Capping off the festivities will be the Met Gala on September 13, 2021, celebrating the Costume Institute’s 75th anniversary. Usually held the first Monday in May, the Met Gala is the primary fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute. This year’s theme is homegrown: In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.
Adding to the excitement, this year’s gala guest hosts are Naomi Osaka, Amanda Gorman, Billie Eilish and Timothée Chalamet. Anna Wintour and Tom Ford are honorary chairs.
The exhibit will delve into the modern vocabulary of American fashion, opening September 18th.
9. Who’ll win the red carpet at the gala? Our money’s on Rihanna.
Hosts aside, there’s no word on the event’s guest list just yet, though with individual tickets going for $30,000 and tables going for $275,000, it’s predicted that JLo, Lupita Nyong’o, and Rihanna will be attending guests.

Despite some of the unknowns – such as the final guest lists and what the spring/summer 2022 collections will actually look like – at both NYFW and the Met Gala, at least one thing is certain. All attendees will be required to provide proof of full vaccination and will be required to wear a mask indoors except when eating, drinking or walking the runway.
