One of the best things about living in New York City is that there is always something new to see, do, buy or eat. And sometimes all of those things are happening in one glittering new space. That pretty much describes the latest entry in culinary marketplaces in New York. Here are our best photos from our first visit, along with tips on where to eat and what to do at the new chic New York luxury food hall the Tin Building NYC, helmed by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
where is the Tin Building in NYC?
On a gray fall day, I took the 6 to the Fulton Street stop on an empty stomach, eager to eat everything at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s new culinary marketplace, the Tin Building – even if it was just with my eyes. The Tin Building was famous for housing the Fulton Fish Market from 1939 to 2005 before the market relocated to the Bronx and the building fell into a state of disrepair.

In its latest reincarnation, this dazzling multi-sensory 53,000 square foot hub for global food and beverage pays homage to its maritime history while embracing the diversity that makes the city great.

where to eat at the Tin Building from Jean-Georges Vongerichten
Other critics from the New York City food media have multi-day reviews from sampling the 12 restaurants and beer and wine bars – not to mention the gourmet grocery, candy and ice cream stores, and bakeries. You really do need days to take it all in.
Every product and menu item has been personally curated by acclaimed chef Jean-Georges including the central marketplace at the building’s core which features daily rotations of locally and sustainably sourced meats, seafood, cheeses, produce and ready-to-eat items.

For upscale dine-in options, there’s the Chinese-inspired House of the Red Pearl with a speak-easy feel, Italian at Frenchmen’s Dough, vegan and vegetarian at Seeds & Weeds, and of course, an authentic French brasserie, T. Brasserie.

If you’re an unabashed grazer like me, who wants a bit of everything, then you’re in luck. Meander through the The Tin Buiding and you’ll find 6 casual counter dining options. Check out Double Yoke for classic egg sandwiches, Fulton Fish Co. for seafood – including a whole steamed lobster, Shikku for sushi, Taquito for Mexican, T. Cafe for coffee and breakfast pastries and Sandwich and Salad for…you guessed it.

where to find gourmet foods and treats
Various markets selling cheeses to flowers and home goods inspire one to make their daily snacks and rituals a little bit more luxurious. And definitely bring the little ones who will light up at the Spoiled Parrot – a fantastical sweet shop selling high-end brands as well as private label chocolate in collaboration with Jacques Torres, Fritz Knipschildt, and others. And, did we mention soft-serve?

where to meet up for a drink
There are no shortage of places to meet up for a drink. The straightforward names are all you need to know: Wine Bar, Beer Here! (with 24 beers on tap), and Cocktail Bar.
phenomenal flower shopping
The flower shopping at The Tin Building is not to be missed. Even if you don’t buy anything, the eye candy there is incredible. Especially on a gray day in NYC.
