After living through years of travel restrictions due to the global pandemic, we’ve been keen to hit the road. And the one of the first stops we wanted to make was London. It’s a glittering city, filled with history, culture, miles of green space and excellent places to dine out. As New Yorkers, our first love will always be Gotham. But London is without question a permanent installation in our top 5 favorite cities in the world. There are so many splendid ways to spend an afternoon in London that it can almost be paralyzing – so many choices, so little time. Having just returned home from a visit, we’ve got some ideas on what’s must-see and must-do. For starters, here’s a recommendation from our team of frequent and curious travelers: on a balmy afternoon when you just want some fresh air, people-watching and perhaps a hit of culture and history, head for Trafalgar Square.
It’s full of people day and night, and has the buzzy energy of any central gathering place in a lively cosmopolitan city. There are buskers performing and influencers posing for selfies. Parents and children, lovers and flaneurs, all in their own spaces and yet somehow part of the collective.

So what makes Trafalgar Square in London distinct from similar spots – like, say, Times Square? Upon reflection, we realized that like so many of our favorite places in London, it’s the contrasts and juxtapositions that make it all so irresistible.
Think about it. Trafalgar Square is a place of soaring monuments.
