Dear reader, we got you. Here are some ideas for chic travel clothes and stylish ways to launch into a new journey this year.
1. Black and white
You can never go wrong with a sophisticated black and white color palette when you’re traveling.
This Givenchy sweater with the brand’s logo in numerous languages sets the right tone as you head off to see the world ($1,340). Saint Laurent’s chunky cardigan ($2,190) would be perfect over black leggings and a black tee. We love the direction of Off-White’s Gummy Jitney bag ($1,075) – and we also love the versatility of wearing it either cross-body or top-handle.
Veronica Beard’s black Gamila stretch-crêpe slim pants ($425) are made for traveling (and long days). Add Christian Louboutin’s Birgitta ankle boots ($1,195) for a polished look. And if you want a pop of color, we love the cheeky fun of Crash Baggage’s Icon carry-on bag in blue ($340). It’s deliberately dented, and embodies the brand’s philosophy: “Handle without care.”

2. Cali Cool
Whether we’re headed for the beach or not, we love the idea of breezing through the airport like a California cool girl. Here are the luxury travel clothes and accessories to nail that look.
We vote for Saint Laurent’s grey Malibu sweater ($690) paired with high-waisted shorts from Alanui ($400), Golden Goose sneakers ($530) and a cross-body bag like BOYY’s Buckle Travel case ($475). The top flap, optional shoulder strap, and the two interior slip compartments and zipped pocket make this a perfect travel companion.
This look demands sunglasses, and we like this retro over-sized pair from Chloé ($475). And the perfect suitcase would be this Away carry-on bag in the aptly-named color Coast ($245).

3. Luxe Sweatpants
If you’re embarking on an overnight flight or a long-haul journey, the best luxury is being comfortable. If you can be chic, as well, then why not go for it? Step off the plan un-rumpled and unfazed, and you’re starting your adventure off at the top of your game.
There are more and more luxury sweatpants out there. We love the look and feel of Extreme Cashmere’s No. 102 stretch-cashmere sweater ($450) and matching wide-legged track pants ($600).
To keep the look polished and add a bit of edge, we love these Alexander McQueen skull hoop earrings ($380). Continue to elevate by wearing a pair of The Row’s new sock ballet flats ($490), which have semi-sheer black mesh uppers and black leather soles. And add a pop of sophisticated color with this burgundy tote from Mansur Gavriel ($585).
If you’re traveling light, Colville’s canvas and leather holdall in grey, green, orange and red ($1,825) is a cheerful way to get from Point A to Point B. If you need more room, though, Fabbrica Pelletterie Milano’s Bank Spinner aluminum cabin-sized suitcase ($1,450) would be perfect.

4. Flirty and Femme
This ivory ribbed tee from Alexander Wang ($450) does double-duty – it has an attached silver chain necklace, so there’s one less thing to pack and keep track of. It’s a perfect match for this romantic floral maxi skirt from Zimmerman ($995), which comes with a matching belt. Or go for one-and-done with this red and white floral Fai dress from Caroline Constas ($657).
Pair either look with these pale pink Meloivia sandals from Ancient Greek Sandals ($172). And ground the dreaminess just a bit with these black acetate sunglasses with purple-tinted lenses from Alaïa ($540).
The perfect suitcase for romantics, this Globe-Trotter cabin-sized roller bag is called The Riviera ($1,440) – it’s inspired by the pastel hues of the Mediterranean coastline. Finally, a heart charm ring from Rosa De La Cruz ($770) is a sparkly reminder of the possibilities ahead of you.

5. Lemon Zest
Sometimes we’re inspired to build an entire outfit around a great pair of shoes. Especially when we’re traveling, and it’s winter, and we’re on a business trip, and we need a reason to smile. Some of the best flights we’ve taken have revolved around an interesting pair of sneakers that sparked interesting conversations with our fellow travelers.
So when we spotted these Maison Margiela Tabi sneakers ($670) for Pre-Spring 2020, we immediately wanted to hit the road in them. Hello, yellow plus paint-splatters? We love it!
If you’re in, you could pair these kicks with A.P.C.’s classic Greta trench coat ($520). The Row’s black Emmett stretch-knit sweater ($490). Toteme cropped slim light-wash jeans ($250).
This white tote from the Tod’s Happy Moments by Alber Elbaz collection ($1,945) feels fresh and fun. And we think this Horizn Studios khaki-brown H5 cabin suitcase ($283) is the ideal travel companion for these shoes.
