Sure, we could serve or bring the same old favorites but it seems like this summer calls for something special. As Rousseau said, “We’re finally able to socialize. 7 Wine Trends Best to Know When Entertaining in Summer 2022
1. sparkling wine trends summer 2022: keush origins
Right away, Rousseau advised that every event should have a sparkling wine. This summer, she is loving Keush Origins from Armenia.
First off, it is delicious with an “energetic, bright, fresh apple and nutty almond flavor.” The unique profile comes from a blend of two indigenous Armenian grape varieties: Khatoun Kharji and Voskehat. Rousseau notes that “it’s flexible enough to go with food that ranges from salty to sweet to tangy.” And, as an added bonus, “it’s a great conversation starter since most people haven’t heard of it or tasted it before.”

2. blush wine trends summer 2022: izadi rosé 2020
Of course, summer is all about rosé. Rousseau recommends trying one of her favorites— Izadi Larrossa 2020 from Rioja, Spain. It has a sweet, elegant and subtle flavor that pairs well with a variety of food offerings. Other reviewers note the aromas of pear, apple and cherries with a fresh in the mouth feel.

3. vinho verde wines: quinta de linhares avesso
The name Vinho Verde—which translates literally to “green wine” in Portuguese but that’s a bit of a misconception. They encompass wines from an entire region in the north of Portugal and include red, white, rosé, and sparkling. Cool, expressive and refreshing, it’s a great summer bottle that’s very affordable and shows you’re in the know (and not a snob). This bottle is made from the Avesso grape, and it’s a single varietal, not a blend.

For a white wine, Rousseau is a fan of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc. Sancerre is a district in the Loire Valley wine territory in north-central France where the wine from the regions features aromas and flavors of stone fruit (apricot) and white flowers, with a light herbaceous quality. She likes that it is a “different style than what we’re used to” with “lots of minerality.”

A lovely summertime red that Rousseau adores is Winter’s Hill Pinot Noir. The pros at Wine Enthusiast agree, giving it their Editors’ Choice endorsement. It is grown on top Willamette Valley terroir and according to Rousseau, “has a flavor profile that is complex —lighter and fresher, but serious.”

6. supporting diverse winemakers: the mcbride sisters

7. lower-alcohol wines: txakolina 2021
Wellness matters more than ever – especially during a global health crisis. But there’s a way to do it elegantly without serving up White Claw. While there are companies producing wines with some or all of the alcohol removed to achieve low abv, this process often compromises the taste. Instead, Regine suggests unadulterated wines that are naturally low in alcohol like Txakolina (chock-oh-LEE-nah).
This Basque wine is dry and light-bodied with mineral-driven fruit and aromas of grapefruit and lemon. She notes that it pairs well with fresh seafood.
